PUPÍTRE. (poo-PIT-reh; Spanish; Noun; desk, school desk; a five-member band formed four years ago in Quezon City, Philippines)

The search for a name led this band back to what they consider a common and distinct place of experience in their hometown Bicol: the seminary (where they studied and underwent a different formation). They call their school desks, pupitre. The desks, in identical brown-paint finish, speak of every person’s uniqueness and creativity. Inside the pupitre are not just books and school stuffs but a variety of interests and a smorgasbord of extreme ideas. From images of the Virgin Mary to photos of basketball idols, improvised hoops and even pillows! The pupitre is stuffed with almost anything thinkable and not.

Very similar to what this band is all about—a gathering of contrasting musical influences: from The Beatles to Metallica, to the nostalgia of Asin and wit of Gary Granada, the old school Aerosmith and the ingenuity of Pepe Smith, the Nirvana and the grunge-pop era, the infectious Eraserheads, and a whole lot of great rock-heads! Each member holds a distinct musical taste, artistic expression, and imagination. But gathered together, the band cleaves to a discerning impression where alternative rock meets pop, mixes funk with a feel and fill of metal and a lot of experimentation. Pupitre is playful and eclectic, unaware of any genre and classification at all.

Getting along and playing together, the band is determined to achieve more and bring out one surprising musical experience.
